Liar liar

May 24th, 2006 at 10:05 am by Laycie

So this was my weather widget yesterday telling me there would be sun on Saturday:

Now today it tells me that there will in fact not be sun on Saturday, just more rain!

Screw the weather! I’m going to a chat room right now and I’m gonna find some granny I can go live with in Florida.

Rain Sucks!

May 23rd, 2006 at 10:38 am by Laycie

I was really starting to get used to this little thing called BLUE SKIES AND SUNSHINE but then this stupid rain comes and ruins everything! I keep looking to my handy little weather widget, hoping it will show me sunshine in the near future.

It has been showing me sunshine, always just a few days down the road, but every day I check it the sunshine scoots down the road a little further. What the hell is that? Do they just do this so people have hope, the hope that the sun is just around the corner. If I checked it and there was rain and clouds all week would I do something crazy? There must be some scientific reason they are doing this to me, giving me this false hope of sunshine.

I don’t want anymore false hope, I just want some sun and a weather widget that isn’t a compulsive liar. . .

So now that I have that over with, what is up with the rain???? Rain just makes me want to lay around and watch my favorite movies with my friends Ben & Jerry, oh how fun it would be. . .

Picturing in my dreamy mind:

Michael is at work, working; I’m at home, blogging. I don’t know if I used that semi colon properly but it seemed like a good thing to do. Okay, since I feel useless with all this rain I am at least going to go look up the proper use of semi colons in this cool little grammar book I have. I had it for a writing class and it’s too bad I never read it.

Here’s an idea. . . If there is anyone out there reading my blabber, write a comment and tell me what the rain makes you feel like doing . . .

Okay, so I’m a crazy cat lady. You got any problems with that then you can just go ahead and talk to Spunky or Princess about it. They’ll tell you I am one cool cat owner, and that I am in fact crazy about them.

Our cable internet got installed today and the guy just left. Spunky was so freaked out when he was here, it was kinda funny. I don’t really ever get to see her around other people because we have no couches and never invite anyone over now. Well Rhianna does come over but Spunky knows her and just tries to cover her purse with Spunky scent every time she’s here.

Spunky is definitely an interesting cat. When I went to pick her up after she got spayed the people at the vet’s were all “We clipped her nails. Wow, she’s got an attitude.” I told them “yeah she does get kinda grumpy sometimes.”

Then all bitchy like the girl says “You should have said something because she scratched the vet really bad.” I was like “Uh . . . sorry. . . .” Then the other girl comes out from the back and says “Do you have a box? We can’t even get her out of the cage she’s hissing and trying to scratch us”

So I walk out to the car to get the box and I’m thinking what the hell are they doing to her, yeah she get’s a little pissy but she sounds like she’s having a nervous break down.

I bring the box in, the girl runs off to the back and then brings it back to me just 8lbs heavier. I go to the car, put her in the passenger seat, then I get in the driver’s seat and open the box lid carefully. All I see is one drugged out cat with the goop still on her eyes from being put under.

I talk to her, pet her and nothing. She’s just laying there, breathing, and that was it. She didn’t move one bit. So this is the cat that just tried to rip 2 people to shreds? In this condition? Puhleeease! I think the girls were trying to make me feel like I had this ferocious human killing cat.

When I got home with my zombie I wrapped her in a towel and put her on the couch, she sat there for 4 hours before she tried to move. It’s still a mystery to me if she really was being crazy or not when they tried to get her, but if she was then it goes along with the one person/family cat thing I read about Manx.

Just to let you know how much of a cat person I am I actually look them up online in my spare time, oh gee! Well I was looking up cat breeds and I looked into Manx. My mom always told me cats with no tail were Manx but as I’ve grown older and come to know that alot of the stuff she told me is crap, I’ve come to doubt this. But I guess Spunky is a Manx here are the characteristics of the breed:

The Manx is a very playful cat as a rule. They can jump higher than anyone could imagine, and it is not unusual to find them perching on the highest point in any room. They have extremely powerful hind quarters. It has been stated by one Manx owner that “Manx are the feline sport cars of the car world with their acceleration and quick turns.” Manx exhibit many dog-like characteristics such as retrieving and burying their toys. They will either be known as a “one person cat” or the “family cat.”

I named my black ball of joy Spunky because she was such a spunky kitten. As she’s got older she has become fat and can’t quite do the things she used to, like jump 4 feet straight up in the air. She stills plays fetch though and she will sit in the living room by her elastic toy and meow because she wants to play. She’ll even go get the toy and bring it to our feet and then look up at us and Mmmeeeeoooowwww.

The litter Spunky came from was 5 kittens,
4 were white and then there was her black butt. Two of them had full tails and two had these weird half tails. According to the site Spunky’s tiny nub makes her a rumpy riser. Here is some interesting info about the genetics:

Since the Manx (or tailless) gene is dominant, kittens that inherit it can have a full tail, a short tail, a rise (known as a “rumpy riser”), or no tail (“rumpies”) at all. Breeders have found that it is possible to have all these tail lengths in one litter!

oh apple, how I love thee…

May 17th, 2006 at 8:03 am by Laycie

So are you tired of your old plain phone, yet too broke to go out and buy a new one? Or are you like me and holding out for something you just can’t resist? There are a lot of us waiting and waiting for apple to release a cell phone but until then you can be like me and make your own. Yeah mine might have been the 1980’s version with the rainbow logo but hey, it’s still cute!

So here it is. . .This is my phone, I have had it forever. . . It does the job I need it to so I haven’t replaced it. . .but the day apple comes out with a phone you can bet your butt I will throw this straight in the trash, faster than my cats run for the tuna.

This is what I did:

I took the casing off, cleaned it and got it prepped for a make over.

I used painters tape and masked off the clear window by lining the straight edge of the tape with the top of the window and then using my finger nail to mark the lines of the other edges.

Then I used the exacto knife to cut along the three other edges.

Then I peeled off the masking

and went on to mask the little holes where the sound comes out the same way I masked the clear window. I pressed the tape down so I could see where the holes were then I tried my best to nicely cut around them.

Now I have a nicely masked phone casing, ready to be painted!! Oh but wait, don’t forget to mask the other side of the clear window because paint will sneak up under there and you’ll have to scratch it off like I did. Okay now you’re ready.

I painted it with white appliance spray paint, just because thats what I had but hey it is made durable for appliances so it’s a good choice either way. I taped the phone casing down to a brown paper bag (by rolling the tape and placing it on the under side of the casing then pressing the casing onto the bag) Then I sprayed about 4 coats and let it dry for an hour or so.

After it was white I tried to think of how I could fancy it up a bit and I got a bright idea when I found these:

So I cut out the stickers and placed them on the phone where I wanted them. I pressed them down very firmly and made sure there were no air bubbles. Then I taped the phone down again and srayed about 4 coats of clear gloss over the phone casing and the stickers. I’m not sure how long my pretty phone make over will last but it sure is cute now.

So here you have it, Laycie’s apple cell phone. If I wanted to get really fancy I could have tried to put iphone on the bottom but that’s just crazy talk. . .

Pretty Pretty Princess

May 16th, 2006 at 10:29 am by Laycie

Since I am home all day working (ha ha) I spend a lot of time with my furry friends Princess and Spunky. I am pretty in touch with their habits and personalities, maybe a little more than I’d like to be, and I try my best to tend to their every need. I scoop poop, I wipe up regurgitated food, I trim matted furballs and crusty butts, I even make Princess her special nasty puree food and spend a great deal of time making sure spunky doesn’t eat it.

Whoever said cats were independent has not met these two fools. They are as needy as a couple puppies just ripped from their mothers teet.

Lately Princess has taken on a sort of food obssessed personality. If she isn’t asleep she wants to be fed. She has been eating a huge can of cat food everyday, they used to last like 3 days. She is driving me nuts. All I try to think is she’s old, she’s probably gonna die soon, can’t I just give her what she wants? So I feed her, she eats, sleeps for 5 minutes then I walk by and wake her up and she runs after me like I have been starving her all week and meows at me with this blood curdling scream. I fed her again and the day goes on like this. I think she’s losing her mind, just a tad.

Just to give you a picture of what I see everytime I walk out of my workroom:

The two furry fools, just staring at me, wanting attention and food. Pathetic!

Now onto other things, not really. So everytime something funny happens or I see something strange all I think is, ooh I need to get a picture so I can put this on my blog . . . So when I saw the scene I am going to tell you about below I laughed first, then ran for the camera.

On Saturday Michael and I were gone for about 6 hours
. I fed princess before we left and knew that she wouldn’t starve to death before we got home. Little did I know, in her mind she would forget in 5 minutes and think we had been gone for weeks without feeding her. Princess was so convinced she was going to die that she got into the garbage and retrieved some burnt toast and a bag of stale english muffins. She then got all the muffins out of the bag and proceeded to gnaw her way around the edge of every single one, making quite the mess allover the floor.

Getting old for Princess looks like it’s going to be an interesting little ride. Silly girl!

It’s been a long time, so this is gonna be a long one!

May 11th, 2006 at 12:06 pm by Laycie

Well let me see here. . . Right now I am currently waiting for the comcast cable person to come and hook us up. I did the whole thing online which was probably a mistake, not sure why but I am just pretty sure. They have you pick three times you are available and they will come any of those three times. I picked Wednesday a.m. & p.m. then Thursday a.m. They officially have 47 minutes until it is no longer a.m. today.

The real pain of me waiting for them is that we want the internet hooked up in the sewing room and so I have to try to keep my mess under control while anticipating the arrival of a stranger to come into it. When I’m sewing it just gets pure crazy! Fabrics, threads, patterns, scissors, pins, and a lot of other junk just spread around everywhere. I try to work neatly but it is just hard, who knows why. The weird thing is I don’t like to start working if my room is a mess but if I mess it up within 10 minutes of starting a project that is just fine. My mind is fascinating, even to me. . .

So I do have to admit I haven’t been doing much work during this wait but I have been doing some internet surfing. Any activity right now is just hard because I can’t help but look out the window every 5 seconds. So I have been looking into all sorts of cool stuff today. I looked up some stocks, my new obsession, and I have also read my fair share of celebrity gossip. You know I try quitting that crap but I am just drawn to the headlines “Scarlett snubs Hollywood . ..” yeah she had a weird nose piercing, who the hell cares? Ugh, I feel dirty when I read that stuff, but then I just shake it off and type DNA into google so I can feel smart.

About an hour ago I was reading something real fascinating about Jessica Simpson and then I hear a knock-knock. I close the browser, don’t want the cable person to know what a dork I am, and run out to the door. Hmmmm. . . I see two little ladies. When did they start having social workers install cable internet, in teams too. I open the door. They smile. I smile. Spunky tries to go outside.

Hi there, we’re going around today sharing scripture. Are you a bible reader?

Uh, no I don’t read the bible.

You know, I’m a nice person.
I can’t answer the door to these people and say “I’m not interested in God, thanks!” I admire them for their faith and for actually thinking that going around spreading the word is worthwhile. If I believed in something that made my life awesome I would probably want to spread the word too, but it takes balls to knock on a strangers door and ask them for their time, so I’m nice about it. I can give them 5 minutes, after all I wasn’t doing anything life changing anyway. You know God works in mysterious ways so maybe he sent them to make me stop reading celebrity trash! hmm. . .

So this time it was Jehovah’s witnesses, last time it was Mormons. I love you guys but it just ain’t for me, sorry. Oh and did you miss this as you walked up the long path to my door?

Yeah, I consider it soliciting. . .

Now onto other news in my life. I got a new vacuum. Oooh Aaah, yes and it is so cute. As you may recall my previous vacuum sucked, in all the wrong ways! What lead to this new purchase was that my old hunkajunk had a broken belt, and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to take the thing apart!

Keeping the manual might have been good, but most vacuums just open up and you can see the belt. Oh not the Shark Roadster! I took out ever screw I could see and I still couldn’t pry the thing apart so I put it straight in the trash! I told myself I would get a bagged vacuum if I ever got a new one but alas I got another bag-less. This one is more simple, but still dusty and dirty to empty. I am willing to sacrifice getting dirty because its green! I love the color and sadly it is almost the entire reason I bought it.

The little green Eureka(model 431A) has been good to me so far. Little and light weight and so cute just sitting in the corner, all green and sparkly, like a vintage car! I’m smitten!

Just to let you know right now I am wearing green pants, drinking lemonade from a green eBay glass and noting that the time is now 12 p.m. and the cable person is probably not going to come. I may have to talk to a human after all. . .

My sister Katie got a cell phones with a built in camera and she sent me a picture to my e-mail. Pretty neat-o! As you can see below she has a new piercing, I think it looks cute.

Now that I don’t have to expect a knock on the door I can get to work and make a big fat mess with no worries.
